A 31-year-old theology student has been arrested by the police in Abia State for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl in Umuahia South Local Government Area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspect, identified as Pastor Moses Ifeayichukwu Gabriel, was apprehended with the help of Behind Bars Defenders, Abia State office. Reports indicate that the victim was infected after the alleged assault.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the State Director of Behind Bars Defenders, Ochiegbu Marvelous, and the group’s Public Relations Officer, Nony Philip.
According to the statement, the victim’s mother brought the matter to the organisation’s attention, prompting immediate action.
“Acting swiftly, the organisation reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer of Ubakala Division, who ensured the suspect’s prompt arrest on November 6, 2025,” the group said.
Pastor Gabriel was subsequently transferred to the Gender Desk Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Umuahia, for further investigation and prosecution.

Behind Bars Defenders strongly condemned the incident and called on the Abia State government, law enforcement agencies, and religious institutions to intensify efforts in protecting children and vulnerable individuals from sexual and gender-based violence.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the case had been reported to the Ubakala Division and later transferred to the Gender Section at the SCIID for continued investigation.
