President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate withdrawal of police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) across the country, directing that they be reassigned to core policing duties to strengthen security in communities nationwide.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the directive was announced at a high-level security meeting held on Sunday in Abuja, attended by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Adeola Ajayi.

Under the new policy, VIPs who require security protection must now route their requests through the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), instead of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the decision is aimed at freeing thousands of police officers from VIP escort duties so they can return to proper community policing, especially in rural and underserved areas where low manpower has weakened security.
Tinubu noted that the move forms part of his administration’s wider security strategy to improve law enforcement visibility and responsiveness across all states.

The President also approved the recruitment of 30,000 new police officers and directed the federal government to work with state governments to upgrade police training institutions across the country.
“The redirection of police officers from VIP protection to community policing will enhance the safety of citizens across the country,” Tinubu said.
