The Nigerian Air Force has given an update on the military jet crash that occurred at the Air Force Base in Kainji, Niger State, confirming that two Alpha Jet pilots survived after safely ejecting during an in flight emergency. The service noted that their swift response prevented a major disaster.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the incident happened shortly after take off on Saturday during a post inspection functional check flight.
He explained that the aircraft developed a serious malfunction mid air, prompting the pilots to act immediately.
According to the update, the pilots steered the jet clear of residential areas before ejecting, a move the Air Force described as disciplined and professionally executed. Both officers were rescued and are undergoing routine medical evaluations.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the pilots for their courage and quick judgement.
“Their bravery and professionalism prevented loss of life and reflect the high standards we expect of our personnel,” he said. He ordered the immediate set up of a Board of Inquiry to determine what caused the malfunction.

The Air Force assured Nigerians that safety remains a top priority in its operations and emphasised its commitment to protecting both personnel and civilians.
“The NAF remains dedicated to safeguarding its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in line with its constitutional mandate,” the statement added.
