He said the development serves as a reminder that the security landscape is evolving, and the military must remain proactive to counter rising threats.
He stressed that no service arm can function in isolation, emphasizing that effective national security depends on strong collaboration between the Army, Navy, Air Force, intelligence units, and all relevant agencies.
Recalling President Bola Tinubu’s approval of Benin’s request for assistance, the Minister explained that Nigerian Air Force jets were deployed to take control of the country’s airspace and push back the coup plotters who had occupied the National TV station and later regrouped at a military facility.
The ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, saw 28 Brigadier Generals elevated, including one posthumous promotion.

General Musa, who served as Special Guest of Honour, described the new Major Generals as dedicated officers whose careers reflect courage, loyalty, and sacrifice.
He charged them to approach their new responsibilities with renewed commitment, saying they now occupy strategic positions that will shape the future direction of the Nigerian Army.
The Minister also underscored the importance of deeper intelligence sharing and joint operations among security agencies.
