Former Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to tackle insecurity across the country, saying security challenges require collective responsibility.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Mohammed made the call on Friday after delivering the 15th convocation lecture at Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State.

He said no leader desires insecurity in his country, stressing that the Federal Government is making significant efforts to address the situation.
“Many people who are not in the kitchen do not know the fire coming out of it. There is no President who wants his country to be insecure. The government is doing a lot, and we must all encourage it,” he said.
Mohammed noted that security is largely a local issue and urged citizens to support government efforts by providing actionable intelligence and playing their roles within their communities.
“The change we want must begin with all of us. Security is a local issue and everyone has a role to play,” he added.
The former minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress, APC, and his support for the Tinubu administration, describing himself as “100 per cent behind the government.”
“I am a very loyal member of APC and I am fully committed to this administration. I have played my role in the frontline. Whatever I need to do now, I will pass through the back channel,” he said.

Mohammed, who served as Nigeria’s longest Minister of Information, said his current focus is on giving back to society through mentorship and public engagement.
Addressing the graduating students, he urged them not to rely solely on academic qualifications, warning that a degree does not automatically translate into success.
“The world is not a straight road to your dreams. It is unpredictable, messy, and full of unexpected opportunities,” he said.
He encouraged graduates to embrace innovation, take risks, and be courageous enough to challenge the status quo respectfully.
“Be bold enough to speak your mind even when it feels uncomfortable. Courage creates opportunities. When opportunities knock twice, swallow your pride and say yes,” Mohammed advised.
He also urged the graduands not to fear failure, describing setbacks as learning points rather than dead ends.
“I failed and failed, and each time, those failures became turning points for me,” he said.
Earlier, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, said the convocation lecture was designed to address topical issues that graduates could apply in navigating societal challenges.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr. Bode Ayorinde, said Achievers University prioritises discipline and standards over certificate acquisition.
He said the institution maintains strict discipline, noting that students have been dismissed for misconduct with their school fees refunded.
According to him, the university also rewards excellence and good behaviour, with monetary awards of ₦5 million for the best faculty, ₦2 million for the second-best faculty, and ₦1 million for the third.
“With a student population of about 5,000, we maintain our standards,” Ayorinde said.
The award of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees will take place on Saturday, alongside the conferment of honorary degrees on eminent personalities.
