The temporary opening followed directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to ensure smooth mobility for residents and commuters during the festive period.
The six-lane dual carriageway, being constructed by Hitech Construction Company, is part of the ambitious Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project designed to connect Nigeria’s coastal states, stimulate economic growth, enhance tourism, and promote regional integration.
A major highlight of the event was a goodwill message delivered by the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, whose council area hosts critical sections of the highway.
Hon. Olowa described the project as transformative for Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos State at large, noting its alignment with grassroots development and federal infrastructure initiatives.
“The coastal road is a reality. This project reflects a bold and audacious vision of Mr. President. What Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has is vision and we thank God for gifting us this leader,” Hon. Olowa said, adding that “for the people of Ibeju-Lekki, this highway is a game changer.”
Speaking on behalf of the Conference 57 of Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Olowa stressed the broader significance of the project for all local governments in Lagos State.
He commended the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, for the pace and quality of work delivered so far, and also appreciated Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for sustaining strong collaboration with the Federal Government.
Earlier, the Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, CON, FNSE, praised the contractors for completing critical sand filling and paving works ahead of schedule.
He noted that the infrastructure would not only address present traffic challenges but also lay the foundation for long-term economic prosperity.
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and representatives of government, underscoring the strategic importance of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway to national development.
