EKO HOT BLOG reports that the sudden medical episode has kept the Senate President away from official legislative responsibilities, including the critical interactive session on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the Fiscal Strategy Paper held on Wednesday.
Akpabio’s absence was evident during the MTEF and FSP flag off, a major session outlining Nigeria’s medium term fiscal plans. Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi represented him at the event.
One of the sources said, “He has already missed today’s Medium Term Expenditure Framework presentation today.”
Sources further disclosed that this was reportedly the second time Akpabio had been rushed to London for medical attention, triggering fresh concerns among lawmakers about his health and continued leadership of the Senate.
According to the sources, his condition is serious enough to require extended treatment abroad, with several senators said to have travelled to London to visit him.
One source said, “A number of senators have gone to visit me,” referring to Akpabio’s hospitalisation overseas.
More significantly, the sources revealed that medical experts attending to the Senate President have advised him to prioritise his health.
A source stated, “Doctors are advising him to step down from the Senate to attend to his health.”

Akpabio was last seen publicly on December 9, when the Senate approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian troops to the Republic of Benin.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from Akpabio or the leadership of the National Assembly regarding his health status.
