He said he believes that the spirit of his predecessor, who was assassinated over two decades ago, is yet to find peace, a situation he linked to the spate of killings in the community.
The late Igwe Francis Nwankwo, popularly known as FFBC Nwankwo and reputed as Africa’s Tallest Man, was a prominent member of the Peoples Club of Nigeria, an elite socio-business association in Igboland. He was assassinated on February 15, 2000, and was succeeded by his son, Chijioke Nwankwo, now known as Igwe Osuofia II, 25 years ago.
In the last two years alone, Nawfia has witnessed a wave of violent incidents, including the killing of five indigenes on October 8, 2024, the gruesome murder of two residents whose eyes were reportedly plucked before their bodies were dumped, the hacking to death of a pregnant woman carrying twins, the killing of five persons during the Enugwu-Ukwu face-off, another fatal incident at Agukwu-Nri, and the most recent murder of four persons by unknown gunmen on December 7, 2025.

Igwe Osuofia II noted that the Nri people abhor bloodshed, stressing the need for unity, reconciliation, and decisive actions to restore peace and stability in the community.
According to the monarch, enemies of progress and agents of crisis have continued to stir confusion and disputes in the town, even 25 years after the assassination of his father. He said his priority is to unite Nawfia, resolve lingering disputes, and take steps that would bring lasting peace while honouring the memory of the late monarch.
