Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has commended the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army for establishing a Training Depot in the state, describing the initiative as a major boost to national security and manpower development.
Adeleke made the remarks while formally welcoming the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to Osogbo ahead of the Passing Out Parade of the first batch of recruits trained at the Osun Army Training Depot.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the event aligns with a Presidential directive declaring a state of emergency on national security, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s defence capacity through accelerated recruitment and training.
The Chief of Army Staff paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House in Osogbo as part of activities marking the historic Passing Out Parade of the pioneer recruits. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2025.
Colonel Anele said the Passing Out Parade forms part of the Federal Government’s response to emerging security challenges across the country.
“The Passing Out Parade forms part of the Federal Government’s accelerated security response measures following the President’s declaration of a state of emergency, directing the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to intensify recruitment, training and deployment of combat ready personnel nationwide,” she said.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu praised the Osun State Government for its cooperation and support, which he said played a key role in the successful establishment of the Training Depot.
He described the facility as a strategic national asset that would strengthen the Army’s operational capacity, empower youths and contribute to national stability.
The Army chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to professionalism, discipline and excellence, noting that the graduating recruits were fully prepared for deployment across various operations in the country.
Governor Adeleke, in his response, thanked the Nigerian Army for locating the Training Depot in Osun State, describing the graduation of the first set of recruits as a historic milestone for the state.
He assured the Army leadership of the state government’s continued support for security agencies in their efforts to ensure peace and stability.
The Passing Out Parade is expected to feature drills, inspections and ceremonial displays, marking the successful completion of basic military training.
