Panic broke out on yesterday afternoon after a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, causing severe traffic congestion and distress among motorists.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. near the Adekunle axis of the bridge, on the lane heading towards Iyana Oworo.

Confirming the development, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the high-capacity BRT bus suddenly went up in flames while in motion, triggering anxiety among commuters and other road users.
LASTMA officials, alongside emergency responders, were immediately deployed to the scene to manage traffic and prevent the fire from spreading to other vehicles.

Although no casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report, the incident led to massive gridlock on the bridge as motorists slowed down or diverted to alternative routes.
Authorities are yet to disclose the cause of the fire, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
LASTMA urged motorists to remain calm, cooperate with traffic officials, and adhere strictly to safety and traffic regulations to avoid secondary incidents.
