Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, both active and retired personnel, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking on Thursday at the parade and wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the government recognises the dedication and sacrifices of military officers and is committed to providing an enabling environment for them to perform their duties effectively.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the governor noted that Lagos State provides yearly support to the armed forces and is prepared to do more, recognising the sacrifices made by officers to safeguard lives and property across the nation.
He urged members of the armed forces to continue their dedicated service despite the challenges inherent in maintaining national security, while also asking for prayers for their wellbeing.

The wreath-laying ceremony saw participation from top state officials, including the Deputy Governor, represented by Mrs Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government; the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, represented by Jubril Abdulkareem; the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba; representatives of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force; the Oba of Lagos; the widow of a fallen hero; and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh.
Speaking at the event, Akeem Wolimoh, Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Legion, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for consistent support for military veterans. He disclosed that the governor had donated N125 million over the past two years to support the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
“Two years ago, Sanwo-Olu donated N50 million; last year, N75 million; and he has promised N100 million for this year,” Wolimoh said. “Additionally, the governor provided 500 bags of 25kg rice, which will be distributed to members in the first week of March 2026.”
The chairman added that a special programme has been scheduled for March to distribute the rice to beneficiaries, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to supporting retired and serving military personnel.
