The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has restated that January 31, 2026, remains the deadline for employers to file their statutory annual tax returns for the 2025 financial year.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement released on Wednesday, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr Ayodele Subair, reminded employers that filing yearly tax returns is a legal requirement under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025 (NTAA).

He explained that employers are expected to submit comprehensive details of salaries, allowances and other emoluments paid to employees, as well as payments made to service providers, vendors and consultants. Employers must also ensure that all relevant taxes for the year under review have been correctly deducted and fully remitted.
Subair stressed that annual tax filing is not optional, warning that any employer who fails to comply will face statutory sanctions, including administrative penalties, as provided by the new tax law.
Citing Section 14 of the NTAA 2025, he noted that employers are mandated to file annual returns showing all emoluments paid, alongside taxes deducted and remitted, and that such returns must be submitted no later than January 31 each year.

“Employers must treat the timely filing of their annual income tax returns as a priority,” Subair said. “Compliance should be part of everyday business practice. Early and accurate filing not only ensures adherence to the law, as required by the Constitution, but also supports effective revenue tracking, which is critical to Lagos State’s fiscal planning and long-term sustainability.”
