Eko Hot Blog reports that the discussions at the meeting focused heavily on the ongoing APC membership registration exercise, which stakeholders described as a people-oriented process that must be driven from the wards and local communities.
Participants emphasized that the APC belongs to the people and that registration should be taken directly to the streets, villages, markets, and neighbourhoods to accommodate artisans, traders, youths, women, and other residents eager to join the party.
Stakeholders agreed that continuous community sensitisation and door-to-door engagement are essential to ensuring that no supporter is left behind in the registration process.
According to them, grassroots mobilisation remains the backbone of the party’s growth and sustainability in Lagos East.
Equally highlighted at the meeting was the importance of INEC voter registration and the collection of Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs). Speakers stressed that political power ultimately resides with the people and can only be exercised through active participation in the electoral process.
“True political power belongs to the people, and that power can only be exercised when citizens are registered and ready to vote,” one of the stakeholders noted during the deliberations.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Olowa underscored the central role of grassroots engagement in governance and representation.
He noted that democracy is strengthened when citizens are properly registered, informed, and empowered to participate in the political process.
“Governance and representation start from the grassroots. When the people are registered, informed, and empowered, democracy is strengthened and development becomes more inclusive,” Hon. Olowa said.
He urged ward leaders, community influencers, and party faithful to take ownership of the APC membership registration and INEC voter registration processes, making them community-driven initiatives that reflect the aspirations of the people.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to deepen grassroots mobilisation across Lagos East Senatorial District, ensuring that APC membership registration and voter registration are taken directly to the people, while reinforcing the party’s strong connection with the everyday needs and aspirations of residents in the district.
