The Governor made this known through his deputy, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, while receiving a delegation of the LCCI led by its newly elected President, Engr Leye Kupoluyi, during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor’s Office at the Round House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Friday.

Responding to the presentation on the proposed convention centre, Sanwo-Olu assured the delegation that the state government would consider the request positively, noting that Lagos was open to collaboration, particularly on projects capable of driving economic growth and global relevance.
He urged the LCCI leadership to deepen engagement with relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Commerce, to ensure proper alignment and effective execution of the project. According to him, while there is clear enthusiasm and support for the initiative, stronger coordination among stakeholders would be critical to achieving meaningful progress and delivering a successful outcome.
The Governor further stated that the proposed convention centre aligns with his administration’s THEMES Plus agenda, particularly in the areas of economic growth, job creation, tourism and global competitiveness.
He noted that such a facility would attract international conferences and exhibitions, stimulate local businesses, boost investor confidence and further position Lagos as a leading centre for commerce and innovation in Africa.
Sanwo-Olu also highlighted ongoing efforts in the agriculture sector, disclosing that the state government is implementing several initiatives guided by a 5-year plan and a long-term 15-year development strategy.
According to him, the government has been engaging commissioners across different states, not limited to the South-West, adding that the Ministry of Food Systems remains proactive in driving agricultural development.
He encouraged the chamber to contribute its expertise to ongoing efforts, stressing that the administration is open to ideas and partnerships that can strengthen the sector.
Earlier, the President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Engr Leye Kupoluyi, commended the state government for its consistent support and for providing an enabling environment for the chamber to operate and grow.
He noted that the Lagos State Government and the LCCI share a common vision and destiny, emphasising the need for sustained collaboration to position Lagos not only as a hub for West Africa but for the entire African continent.

Kupoluyi added that the engagement was aimed not just at renewing shared commitments, but at reaffirming the need for continuous improvement in leadership and governance.
He also disclosed that the chamber plans to partner with the State Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen the food system, noting that Lagos’ high consumption of agricultural produce makes increased local production within its hinterland both necessary and strategic.
