The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed ongoing opposition efforts to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the alliance aimed at stopping President Bola Tinubu’s re-election is bound to collapse.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the party said the proposed coalition lacks unity and is already being undermined by competing personal ambitions among leading opposition figures.

The APC’s Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Seye Oladejo, made the assertion in a statement on Wednesday, describing the opposition talks as unstable and driven more by individual power struggles than by ideology or national interest.
According to Oladejo, what is being presented as a coalition is merely an assemblage of presidential aspirants unwilling to make compromises necessary for a functional political alliance.
“What is being marketed as a coalition is, in reality, a congregation of serial presidential aspirants, each unwilling to subordinate personal ambition to collective purpose,” he said.
He argued that the absence of a shared vision or ideological foundation had left the opposition arrangement fragile and internally conflicted.
“From the outset, this assemblage has lacked ideological cohesion or a unifying national vision beyond a fixation on power. Coalitions thrive on compromise; this one is already suffocating under entitlement,” Oladejo added.

The APC spokesman said recent public statements by opposition leaders had exposed deep divisions within the group, noting that demands for guaranteed presidential or vice-presidential tickets had replaced consensus-building.
“Public posturing, ultimatums and pre-conditions have taken the place of dialogue. When individuals demand guaranteed tickets before alignment, it becomes clear that this is not a partnership but a transactional arrangement destined to fail,” he said.
Oladejo further noted that appeals by opposition figures urging their supporters to stop attacking one another publicly underscored the level of hostility within the coalition.
“A coalition that must beg its own supporters for peace even before any formal structure is in place has already conceded defeat to its internal chaos,” he said.
He warned that the existence of multiple power centres within the same alliance would further weaken collective decision-making, describing such arrangements as historically unsustainable.
“History is unkind to coalitions built on convenience rather than conviction, and Nigeria has seen this scenario before. The outcome is always fragmentation and implosion,” Oladejo said.
Reaffirming the APC’s confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, Oladejo said the ruling party remained focused on governance and delivering on its policy agenda.
“The APC remains a tested platform with the capacity to manage diversity, resolve internal differences through democratic processes, and present a coherent governance agenda,” he said.
He added that while the opposition struggles with internal discord, the APC is consolidating reforms and implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda under President Tinubu.
According to him, elections are ultimately decided by performance, structure and national vision, expressing confidence that Nigerians would choose continuity in 2027.
