Eko Hot Blog reports that the programme enables residents to exchange recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, nylon, aluminium cans and other reusable items for cash incentives, thereby reducing environmental pollution while creating additional sources of income for community members.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, commended the Sahara Group Foundation for extending the recycling initiative to the area.
He noted that environmental sustainability remains a key focus of his administration and described the hub as a practical step towards achieving a cleaner and greener Ibeju-Lekki.
Hon. Olowa emphasized that the initiative provides an avenue for residents to turn waste into wealth while supporting the council’s drive for community-based development.
He called on traditional rulers, market women and youth groups to fully embrace the programme and take advantage of the opportunities it offers.
The Sahara Go-Recycling Hub is situated at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat in Igando-Oloja.
Residents can participate without any registration fee by bringing clean recyclable items to the centre. Payments are made instantly, with an option to save earnings through a digital wallet system.
The hub operates from Monday to Friday and allows residents to recycle as often as they choose.
The initiative is expected to improve waste management practices, encourage environmental responsibility and enhance economic inclusion across communities in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.
