Tension briefly surfaced between two Nollywood heavyweights after filmmaker Kunle Afolayan disclosed that he received an emotional phone call from actress and producer Funke Akindele.
Afolayan revealed that the exchange followed public reactions to his recent comments on movie promotion methods within the Nigerian film industry, which some interpreted as a subtle criticism of dance-focused marketing strategies often used by colleagues, Eko Hot Blog gathered.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Sunday, the award-winning director explained that Akindele reached out to him directly, clearly upset by how his remarks were being linked to her.

“She called me and said, ‘I know you don’t like me, but please don’t mention my name in your interviews,’” Afolayan recounted, noting that she ended the call abruptly after raising her voice.
Despite the incident, Afolayan dismissed suggestions of any rift between them, stressing that their relationship remains cordial and rooted in years of friendship.

“It was strange to me because Funke is like a sister. We go way back to our UNILAG days. I used to visit her hostel, and I’m also close to her sister. So I honestly don’t know where the assumption came from,” he said.
He maintained that his comments were never intended as a personal attack, adding that there is no animosity between him and the popular actress.
