The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the immediate posting of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Rilwan Disu as the new AIG in charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the county’s top police officer made the approval on Monday, February 2, 2026.
EDITOR’S PICKS
The deployment sees the highly decorated senior officer move from his previous position as AIG in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) to oversee one of the most critical investigative units of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force CID Annex handles high-profile criminal investigations, making this posting a testament to the confidence the police leadership has in Disu’s investigative acumen.
Born on April 13, 1966, AIG Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and was decorated with the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police on March 25, 2025.
Before his current appointment, he served as Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command from October 2024 to March 2025, where his command oversaw the arrest of over 1,000 criminals in just six months.

Prior to that, he was CP for Rivers State Command, assuming office on November 15, 2023.
As Rivers CP, in April 2024, AIG Disu was awarded the Commissioner of Police of the Year at the maiden edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendation ceremony in Abuja.
“Recognition will be given to disciplined officers who diligently carried out investigations and prosecutions,” IGP Egbetokun said at the ceremony.
“Their efforts have brought offenders to justice, delivered closure to victims and reinforced the rule of law, transforming justice from a mere concept into a tangible reality for all.”
The Lagos RRS Legacy
AIG Disu’s most celebrated achievement remains his transformation of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) after his appointment in June 2015.
Under his leadership, the RRS became instrumental in stemming insecurity across Lagos State while maintaining cordial relations with the public. The squad’s effectiveness earned it the award for best anti-crime police squad in West Africa in 2016, and the legacy Disu built continues today.

During the 2020 End SARS protests, CP Disu, as he then was, distinguished himself by releasing ambulances to help protesters who needed medical care, demonstrating empathy even in the face of intense anti-police sentiment.
In August 2021, he was appointed to head the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT), replacing the controversial DCP Abba Kyari.
Under his leadership, the IRT recorded significant successes, including the arrest of a fraud syndicate that specialised in breaching bank accounts. The then Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, publicly commended the Disu-led FIB-IRT for these achievements in July 2022.
Qualifications and Professional Development
AIG Disu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from Lagos State University (LASU), a Master of Science in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010), and a Master of Science in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022). He also possesses an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence.
He has attended numerous professional courses including Small Arms Smuggling Training in Botswana and Internet Fraud Training at the University of Cambridge. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Academy of Forensics, and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, among other professional bodies.
Outside policing, AIG Disu is a Third Dan Black Belt holder in Judo who won a silver medal at the 33rd United States Open Judo Championship in 2022. He formerly chaired the Lagos State Judo Association.
A Model for the Force
At 59 years old, AIG Disu represents what many Nigerians consider the finest of the Nigeria Police Force. In a force often criticised for unprofessionalism, officers like Disu offer hope that the police can earn and maintain public trust.
In an interview with EKO HOT BLOG on his 58th birthday, the highly decorated police officer credited the support of his family, including his parents, for his effectiveness as a police officer. “Their support has been instrumental to keeping me on my toes and serving the public effectively,” he said.
As AIG Disu assumes leadership of the Force CID Annex Alagbon, expectations are high that he will bring the same professionalism, innovation, and results that have characterized his previous postings.
