The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, confirming that the presidential and National Assembly polls will hold on Saturday, February 20, 2027.
Eko Hot Blog reports that INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the schedule at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, adding that governorship and state assembly elections are slated for Saturday, March 6, 2027, two weeks after the national elections.

- Submission of candidates’ lists: October 1 – 31, 2026
- Final list of candidates: November 15, 2026
- Presidential campaign period: November 18, 2026 – February 19, 2027
- Governorship campaign period: December 15, 2026 – March 5, 2027
- Continuous Voter Registration (CVR): April 2026 – January 2027

Prof. Amupitan stressed that the release of the timetable aligns with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended). He cautioned political parties and candidates to adhere strictly to the approved dates, warning that campaigning outside the official periods would violate electoral guidelines.
The Commission also highlighted that Continuous Voter Registration will run from April 2026 to January 2027, giving eligible Nigerians an opportunity to register or update their voter information ahead of the elections.
INEC had finalised the timetable pending amendments to the Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly, urging lawmakers to expedite the process to ensure smooth preparations for the 2027 polls.
