Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, explained that the program complements similar outreach efforts in the state. “In the last five days, about 10,000 drivers received free health services and safety talks, but the governor felt the police should also benefit. That is why 1,000 officers were targeted for free eye screening and eyeglasses,” he said.
Adekoya added that Governor Sanwo-Olu approved the program in recognition of the critical role police officers play in maintaining the state’s security architecture.
Inspector Uchenna Gloria, one of the beneficiaries, praised the initiative, highlighting the impact on officers who work long hours on computers. “This program helps correct vision problems caused by daily office work.
The eyeglasses recommended for me have already improved my sight when reading and typing. I sincerely thank the IGP, the Lagos Commissioner of Police, and Governor Sanwo-Olu. I hope this becomes an annual initiative,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Bello Adewale, explained that the eyeglasses enabled him to read smaller print that he previously struggled with, demonstrating the practical benefits of the program.

The initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s commitment to supporting the health and efficiency of its security personnel while enhancing overall public safety.
