Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking in an interview, Egoh described the proposed collaboration as a strategic step in the right direction, noting that Nigeria’s security situation requires urgent and coordinated international support.
“Therefore, the Federal Government’s decision to welcome military support from the United States is a positive development aimed at decisively confronting insecurity,” he said.
Egoh highlighted that undue political interference within Nigeria’s military architecture has continued to undermine effective operations, and collaboration with global partners could improve operational efficiency and intelligence gathering.
He stressed that insecurity in Nigeria has persisted for over four decades, posing a complex challenge for successive administrations.
The former lawmaker observed that activities of bandits, terrorists, and militant groups have spread across the South-South and South-East regions, with gradual infiltration into parts of the South-West. He lamented that citizens continue to lose their lives daily to criminal elements.
“Enhanced military cooperation with global partners such as the United States would provide Nigeria with advanced technology, intelligence sharing mechanisms, and specialized training needed to combat evolving security threats,” Egoh added.
He, however, cautioned that any foreign military engagement must respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and operate strictly within clearly defined legal and operational frameworks.
Egoh also urged the Federal Government to complement external support with internal reforms, including improved welfare for security personnel, better equipment, and strengthened community policing strategies to ensure sustainable peace.
