Delivering the keynote address, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru urged young people to take an active role in governance and make use of available platforms to contribute meaningfully to public policy.
He encouraged youths to familiarise themselves with legislative principles and procedures, noting that effective participation in governance requires discipline, knowledge and a solutions-driven mindset.
Abiru also advised young people to go beyond social media engagement and focus on practical involvement in legislative and policy processes. He stressed that youth parliamentarians occupy strategic positions as representatives of their demographic and must approach their responsibilities with seriousness.
“The young ones should be exposed early to legislative activities,” he said, adding that policies are essential to sustain development and long-term transformation.

In her goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, described the summit as an initiative aimed at equipping young people with legislative training and strengthening their participation in governance.
Also speaking at the event were the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda; the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu; the Lagos APC Youth Leader, Dr Seriki Murtala; and the Mayoress of Ikosi LCDA, Hon. Abolanle Samiat Bada. They commended the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for organising the programme and encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity to deepen their understanding of legislative work.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Speaker of the Lagos State Youth Parliament, Maria Itunuoluwa Soniregun, expressed appreciation to the state government for supporting the platform through the Ministry of Youth and Social Development. She pledged that members of the Youth Parliament would utilise the opportunity to propose bills and initiatives aimed at addressing challenges faced by young people in the state.
The summit forms part of broader efforts to encourage structured youth engagement in governance and policy development in Lagos State.
