According to him, the coordinated operations took place between February 20 and 22 in areas including Ebute Ero, Marina, CMS, Obalende and Adeniji Adele. The exercise was carried out by the state’s Anti Open Defecation Squad as part of routine monitoring and sanitation enforcement.
Gbadegesin said 20 individuals were arrested on February 20, followed by 15 more on February 21, and another 11 on February 22. He explained that the suspects were apprehended during surveillance activities focused on known locations where open defecation had previously been reported.
All 46 suspects have reportedly been transferred to the headquarters of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps in Oshodi for further investigation and possible prosecution under Lagos State environmental laws.

The LAWMA boss said the enforcement action is part of ongoing efforts by the government to eliminate open defecation, improve public health standards, and strengthen environmental sanitation across the state.
He noted that open defecation remains a violation of environmental regulations and poses significant health risks, particularly in densely populated commercial areas.
Gbadegesin urged residents and business owners to make use of approved public sanitation facilities and comply with environmental laws. He warned that the government would continue sustained monitoring and enforcement, adding that offenders will face arrest and prosecution in line with existing legislation.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining cleanliness, protecting public health and ensuring environmental sustainability across Lagos.
