The deceased was an operative of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) who was carrying out routine cleaning duties when she was hit by a blue Ford commercial bus.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), preliminary findings showed that the driver, whose vehicle was loaded with crates of bottled beverages, attempted to reverse on the expressway in a grossly negligent manner.
The impact of the collision reportedly caused severe head injuries, leading to the immediate death of the street sweeper.
Following the crash, the driver fled the scene in an attempt to evade arrest. LASTMA officers on surveillance patrol pursued the vehicle and successfully apprehended the suspect.

Officials said the prompt intervention prevented a possible mob attack by bystanders who had gathered at the scene.
The suspect and the vehicle were later handed over to the Meiran Police Division for further investigation, while LAWMA officials evacuated the remains of the deceased for necessary procedures.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare Oki, described the death as tragic and avoidable. He stressed that reversing on an expressway constitutes a serious traffic violation under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law and carries grave consequences.
He also extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased, assuring that the agency would pursue prosecution.
In a related development, LASTMA confirmed another fatal accident on Meiran Road near the Primary Health Centre, where a Dangote Silo Mixer Truck reportedly suffered brake failure and rammed into a commercial mini bus and 4 tricycles. The crash claimed the lives of 2 persons and left 3 others with critical injuries.
LASTMA said preliminary investigations indicated that excessive speed and mechanical failure caused the multi vehicle collision, which left several vehicles badly damaged and passengers trapped before rescue efforts commenced.
