President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, following the submission of his letter citing pressing family considerations.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the President received Egbetokun’s resignation earlier on Tuesday and commended him for his decades of service to the nation and the Nigeria Police Force.

Tinubu praised his dedication, professionalism, and efforts toward strengthening the country’s internal security framework during his tenure.
Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023, had been serving a four-year term scheduled to end in June 2027, in line with the amended provisions of the Police Act.
In response to the development and ongoing security challenges across the country, the President has approved the appointment of Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect. Disu currently holds the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu expressed confidence in Disu’s experience, operational expertise, and leadership ability to provide steady direction for the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period.
In line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, the President is expected to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General of Police. His name will subsequently be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
President Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security, improving institutional capacity, and ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional, accountable, and fully equipped to carry out its constitutional duties.
