Multipro Enterprise Limited, the manufacturers of Hypo Bleach, has issued a stern public safety warning to Nigerians following a series of disturbing social media trends.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the company’s intervention comes after a viral online dispute between high-profile content creators King Mitchy and VeryDarkMan (VDM) reportedly triggered a wave of dangerous “suicide-baiting” videos involving the product.

In an official statement released via Instagram, the company’s Marketing Manager, Adebayo Adeyemo, emphasized that the product is strictly for domestic hygiene and poses a lethal risk if consumed.
The manufacturer expressed deep concern over AI-generated images and fabricated videos circulating on platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), which depict Hypo sachets as consumable beverages.
“Hypo Bleach is formulated to remove stains, whiten fabric, and kill 99.9% of germs. It is not a drink,” the statement read. “We want to be unambiguous: those images are fabricated, that framing is false, and anyone encouraging others to consume Hypo, even as a joke, is putting lives at risk.”

The safety alert follows a weekend of high tension in the Nigerian digital space. Reports indicate that a heated dispute with social media critic VeryDarkMan led creator King Mitchy to livestream a purported suicide attempt using harmful substances.
The situation escalated when VDM appeared in a subsequent video appearing to ingest a substance from a Hypo sachet, an act many viewed as a mocking reaction to the initial incident.
This back-and-forth has since sparked a “challenge” among smaller influencers, who have begun filming skits simulating self-harm using bleach containers to gain views.
Multipro Enterprise Limited appealed directly to bloggers and the influencer community to exercise “digital sensitivity” and recognize the real-world consequences of their content.

“To every influencer: Your reach is real. So is your responsibility,” the company stated. “A trend that ends in ill-health is not a trend worth starting.”
The brand further urged young Nigerians struggling with emotional distress to seek professional help rather than engaging in dangerous online dares.
The trend has drawn widespread condemnation from child safety activists and parents, many of whom are calling on the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and security agencies to penalize creators promoting self-harm.
Medical experts have also weighed in, warning that the chlorine-based chemicals in bleach cause immediate and severe internal chemical burns, permanent esophageal damage, and can be fatal even in small quantities.
