The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured that all pensioners in the state are up to date with their entitlements, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to the welfare of retirees.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the assurance came in a statement on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gbenga Akosile, following a courtesy visit from the senior management team of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), led by Executive Secretary Tolulope Odunaiya, to Lagos House, Marina.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the value Lagos State places on pensioners, praising their years of service to the government and affirming that they will continue to be treated with dignity and fairness.
“We deeply respect the contributions of our pensioners. They devoted significant portions of their lives to serving the public, and we remain committed to ensuring their well-being,” the governor said.

On reforms under the contributory pension scheme, Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos State has cleared all outstanding liabilities over the past three years, making it the only state in the country without arrears.
“All pension obligations under the contributory scheme have been met. No retiree can claim they are owed arrears from the past three years,” he said.
The governor also stated that retirees with complete documentation now receive their benefits promptly, usually within two to three months of leaving service.
“For those who have served the nation, it is only right that we provide respect and a responsive system so they can enjoy their retirement with dignity,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu pledged ongoing support for PTAD’s efforts to improve the welfare of Lagos-based pensioners.

Executive Secretary Odunaiya expressed her hope for continued collaboration with the Lagos State Government, noting that many of the nation’s nearly 200,000 Defined Benefit Scheme pensioners reside in Lagos.
“These men and women faithfully served the country and now deserve access to their benefits with fairness and dignity,” she said, adding that reforms introduced in August 2025 under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aim to strengthen social protection for retirees and senior citizens.
