The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a globally competitive public service workforce through strategic partnerships and sustained investment in capacity building.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this formed the focus of discussions at the second edition of a two-day Executive Leadership Training Programme held in Ikeja, where senior government officials highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen human capital across ministries, departments and agencies.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, represented by Permanent Secretary Sunkanmi Oyegbola, said the state’s investment in workforce development was already producing measurable results.
He noted that several senior officers are currently undergoing specialised postgraduate training tailored to their career paths, adding that the initiative is designed to equip them with the skills required for modern governance.
Agoro stressed that rapid technological changes and rising public expectations demand a shift away from routine administrative practices, urging public servants to adopt innovative and forward-looking approaches in service delivery.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, described the programme as a key component of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s development agenda.

He said the collaboration with Rome Business School Nigeria was aimed at bringing global best practices in leadership and governance to Lagos’ public service.
According to him, modern governance challenges such as digital transformation and economic resilience require new skill sets and practical solutions that go beyond traditional methods.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Adeniran Kasali, added that the training programme is structured to equip public sector leaders with the tools needed to navigate complex governance environments.
In his welcome address, the General Manager of Rome Business School Nigeria, Olalekan Asunmo, said the programme combines academic insight with industry expertise to deliver practical strategies for governance and leadership.
He noted that the initiative underscores Lagos’ ambition to remain a leader in public service excellence in Africa by prioritising continuous learning, digital literacy and professional development.
Officials said the training aligns with the state’s broader goal of building a responsive and efficient public service capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape.
