A student of the University of Ibadan has died after reportedly ingesting a substance suspected to be insecticide.
Sources said the student, who was in 300 level at the time of his death, passed away on Sunday night. The incident reportedly occurred within the premises of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, where he was later found on the ground floor in an unconscious and distressed state by another student.

According to reports, the deceased allegedly admitted to taking a substance identified as “sniper”, a commonly referenced brand of insecticide.
He was immediately rushed to the university clinic for emergency treatment. After being stabilised, he was referred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he was placed on life support.
Despite medical intervention, he was confirmed dead later.

The Public Relations Officer of the hospital confirmed the death when contacted, stating simply that the student had been brought in and had passed away.
The incident has prompted concern within the university community in Ibadan, with calls for further details and support measures as authorities continue to respond to the tragedy.
