- Osogbo Youths Protest Over Poor Power Supply in Osun State

Dozens of young people from Òṣogbo on Wednesday staged a protest at the premises of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, demanding urgent action over what they described as unbearable and inconsistent power supply across Osun State and surrounding communities.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the protesters arrived in groups in the morning, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with messages calling for improved electricity service. They accused the company of issuing estimated and prepaid bills despite prolonged outages affecting homes and businesses.

One of the protesters, who identified himself as Tunde, said residents were struggling to cope with repeated disruptions.
“We cannot continue to pay for darkness. Our businesses are collapsing and households are frustrated,” he said.
Another demonstrator explained that many small businesses now depend heavily on generators to stay operational, adding that rising fuel prices have made the situation even more difficult.
“We spend more on fuel than we earn daily. We need stable electricity to survive,” she said.
The youths urged the company’s management to provide a clear explanation for the ongoing outages and to outline a definite timeline for improved supply.

Security personnel were deployed to maintain order while representatives of the company engaged with a delegation of the protesters in discussions.
The demonstration comes amid growing concerns over power distribution challenges in the state, with residents increasingly calling for transparency and long term solutions.
In a separate statement issued earlier in the week, IBEDC informed customers in the Osun region that the reduced power supply was due to lower energy allocation, which has limited its ability to deliver optimal service.
The company listed several affected areas, including communities in Iwo, Ede, Osogbo and other towns across the region. It explained that the situation was linked to broader industry constraints, particularly gas availability to power generation companies.
IBEDC expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and said it was engaging relevant stakeholders to improve energy allocation once supply conditions stabilise.
