EKO HOT BLOG reports that the First Lady made these remarks on Thursday while hosting an Interfaith Breaking of Fast event that combined Iftar and the Christian Lenten observance at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The gathering brought together Christian and Muslim leaders, wives of state governors, female lawmakers, ministers, and other prominent women. During her address, Oluremi Tinubu emphasised the importance of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians. She described the event as a special opportunity for women from different backgrounds to come together in unity.
According to her, the simultaneous observance of Ramadan and the Christian Lenten season presented a powerful moment for national reflection and harmony. She explained that her marriage to President Tinubu, a Muslim, demonstrates that people of different faiths can live together peacefully with mutual respect and understanding.
Reflecting on their relationship, she said she could hardly remember more than two occasions in which both of them raised their voices at each other throughout their nearly four decades of marriage. The First Lady stressed that maturity and respect remain essential for peaceful coexistence in families and society.
She also urged Nigerians to cultivate the fear of God, describing it as the foundation of wisdom and integrity in society. Oluremi Tinubu further encouraged women to play active roles in mentoring younger generations and serving as role models who can guide them with experience and knowledge.
Speaking at the event, Professor Ganiyat Adejoke Adesina-Uthman of the National Open University of Nigeria highlighted what she described as a growing crisis of trust in public service. Addressing the theme “Serving with excellence, compassion, and integrity in public life,” she emphasised that integrity must remain non-negotiable in governance.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including former First Lady Patience Jonathan, the wife of the Vice President Kashim Shettima, Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Hajia Amina Sambo, and the wife of the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Ekaette Akpabio. Also present were the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Mrs. Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, female members of the National Assembly, judges, and ministers.
