EKO HOT BLOG reports that the confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, who said the development did not come as a surprise to the party.
According to the statement, Kwankwaso’s defection had been anticipated, noting that it followed ongoing consultations among opposition parties aimed at forming a stronger alliance ahead of future elections.
The party explained that the move aligns with broader efforts by opposition figures to unite and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, with the goal of repositioning the country.
Despite his exit, the NNPP expressed appreciation for Kwankwaso’s contributions to the growth of the party over the past three years.
“We thank the National Leader for contributing to the strength of the party as one of the country’s prominent opposition platforms,” the statement said.
The party noted that under his leadership, it recorded key political achievements, including producing a governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and several state assembly members.
It added that the former Kano State governor played a significant role in strengthening the party’s structure and expanding its political reach.

The NNPP also wished Kwankwaso success in his future political journey, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We wish him success in the 2027 general election and in his future political endeavours,” the statement added.
