The Permanent Secretary of the Parastatals Monitoring Office, Oluwagbemiga Aina, explained that the initiative is a key component of ongoing reforms within the state’s public service.

Speaking during the first phase of the exercise, he noted that the process goes beyond updating records and is designed to strengthen transparency and efficiency in managing retirees’ entitlements.
Aina stated that the verification exercise would help align existing records, correct inconsistencies, and create a reliable database of retirees.
He added that this would enhance planning and service delivery across affected institutions while ensuring that all eligible retirees receive their benefits promptly.
He further emphasised the government’s commitment to retirees, acknowledging their years of service and assuring them that their welfare remains a priority.
According to him, the exercise will also lay the groundwork for additional reforms aimed at improving pension administration and institutional processes.

Reacting to the initiative, a retiree from Radio Lagos/Eko FM, Femi Afolayan, praised the effort, noting that many workers employed through agencies had previously missed out on certain benefits available to core civil servants.
He expressed optimism that the verification would help capture their records and ensure inclusion in future entitlements.
The statement added that the exercise is expected to serve as a foundation for wider reforms in data management, pension systems, and accountability within the Lagos State public service.
