A faction within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has disowned the party’s congress held on Saturday, calling it unlawful and contrary to an existing court order.
In a statement released on Sunday, Eko Hot Blog reports that the faction’s secretary, Adamu Aliyu, criticised the event organised by a rival group aligned with former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

He argued that those behind the congress had no legal authority to act on behalf of the party.
Aliyu stated that the group is not recognised as the legitimate leadership of the ADC in Kebbi State and insisted that the congress they conducted has no standing, as it allegedly breached a court order issued before Malami joined the party.

He explained that a prior ruling had barred the faction led by Sufiyanu Bala from presenting themselves as the party’s leaders in the state, making any actions taken by them invalid.
According to him, the exercise held on Saturday cannot be considered a legitimate congress since it was organised by individuals who lack legal recognition and therefore have no mandate to carry out such activities.
Aliyu further asserted that Abdulrazaq Iko remains the duly recognised state chairman, as affirmed by both the court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He added that the disputed congress was not monitored by INEC, which further undermines its legitimacy.

He also said the faction would wait for the courts to conclude ongoing proceedings before organising any valid congress, emphasising the need to follow due legal procedures.
In a separate statement, Iko called on party members and supporters to remain calm and peaceful while awaiting the court’s decision on the matter.
