Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that a large number of Nigerians are determined to vote President Bola Tinubu out of office in the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Amaechi made the statement on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, where he blamed the country’s worsening economic situation and rising hardship for growing public frustration.

He described the economic climate as deeply difficult, saying many citizens are struggling to afford basic needs such as food, fuel, and transportation. According to him, costs across sectors have continued to rise sharply, putting additional pressure on households and businesses.

The former Minister of Transportation also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s political messaging, recalling earlier campaign promises and suggesting that public expectations remain unmet.
He further argued that ethnic and religious considerations in politics have contributed to Nigeria’s current challenges. He urged citizens to move beyond such divisions, stating that economic realities affect everyone regardless of background.
Amaechi also alleged that there are efforts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections, claiming that such actions could undermine the credibility of the democratic process.

He insisted that if opposition forces are properly organised and allowed to compete freely, the ruling party could be defeated at the polls.
He questioned the government’s handling of key national issues, particularly insecurity and economic instability, arguing that these factors would make electoral victory difficult for the president.
On his political future, Amaechi expressed confidence in his ability to address Nigeria’s challenges and said he remains committed to national development. He also indicated support for opposition alliances, noting he would back Atiku Abubakar if he emerges as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
His remarks followed comments from President Bola Tinubu, who dismissed criticism from opposition figures, describing them as distractions. The President restated his focus on governance and pledged not to be deterred by political attacks.

Speaking at a meeting with Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Abuja, Tinubu said he remained committed to leading the country despite challenges, adding that he would not abandon his responsibilities.
He also reflected on the difficulty of his election journey in 2023, noting that both the party primaries and general elections were highly competitive.
As political alignments continue to take shape ahead of 2027, opposition figures under the ADC coalition, including several prominent politicians, have vowed to challenge the ruling party in the next presidential election.
