EKO HOT BLOG reports that details of the talks were not made public, but the engagement is seen as significant given the growing consultations among opposition figures ahead of the next election cycle.
Atiku and Kwankwaso are influential figures within the African Democratic Congress coalition platform, which has recently attracted increased attention as a potential vehicle for opposition collaboration.
The meeting also comes days after Atiku addressed speculations about Kwankwaso’s political strength in the northern region, dismissing suggestions that the former Kano governor could surpass him in influence.
Speaking during a recent interview, Atiku said he remains “more popular than Kwankwaso in the North,” citing his longstanding political network and reach across the region.
He maintained that while several northern politicians command strong followings, none currently matches his level of support across the region.
According to him, Kwankwaso’s political influence is largely concentrated in Kano State, adding that even within the state, support is now shared between him and the incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf.

The latest meeting between both leaders has further fuelled discussions around possible alignments and strategies within opposition circles as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 polls.
