He clarified that the exercise remains legally valid, dismissing claims that it had been nullified by the courts.

According to him, the state secured a favourable ruling at the Court of Appeal, which upheld the laws guiding the enforcement of environmental sanitation.
Wahab emphasized that maintaining a clean environment requires joint responsibility between government and citizens, noting that the initiative has been carefully planned over time.
He revealed that major transport unions have agreed to restrict vehicle movement during the sanitation period, encouraging residents to remain indoors and dedicate the time to cleaning their immediate environment.
However, he noted that exemptions apply in specific situations, including emergencies, scheduled flights, and candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The commissioner added that the Lagos Waste Management Authority has been fully mobilised to handle waste evacuation, while environmental health officials are on ground to monitor compliance and issue notices to defaulters.
Wahab called on residents to take ownership of their environment, stressing that consistent participation in the monthly exercise will contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and flood-free Lagos.
