EKO HOT BLOG reports that the reaction came from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who accused Obi of political inconsistency and opportunism.
Onanuga, in a statement posted on his 𝕏 handle on Sunday, said the former Anambra State governor’s latest political move confirmed earlier concerns raised by the Presidency about his political approach.
Obi had earlier announced his decision to leave the ADC, citing what he described as a hostile and discouraging political climate. He said that even within political alliances, individuals often face unexpected opposition and criticism.
The former governor clarified that his decision was not influenced by any personal issues with party leaders, including David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
He explained that recurring internal disputes and legal challenges within the party contributed to his exit. Obi compared the situation to challenges he previously encountered within the Labour Party, reiterating his belief in leadership as service and stressing that he has never used power to oppress others.
He also dismissed claims that his actions were driven by personal ambition.
Reacting, Onanuga described Obi as a “political nomad,” alleging that he had once again moved from one political platform to another ahead of a presidential contest.
He said, “We told you so. The political nomad is on the move again. Ignore all those puerile reasons he gave in these illogical musings, a self-serving letter to his mob.”
The presidential aide insisted that Obi’s explanation for leaving the ADC was aimed at appealing to his supporters.
Onanuga further alleged that Obi exited the party to avoid a competitive contest for the presidential ticket with Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
He said, “Peter Obi is a politician made of jelly, an opportunistic fellow. He can’t fight Atiku or Amaechi for the ticket of ADC.”
Onanuga argued that Obi’s move reflected a preference for what he described as an easier political route, adding that the decision would not guarantee electoral success in 2027.
He stated, “He pursues the easy road, that will only lead him to doom, like in 2023.”
Onanuga also accused Obi of consistently blaming the government without reflecting on his own political decisions.
He said, “He always blames the government without doing a soul-searching of himself.”
The Presidency’s reaction comes as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, remains a key opposition figure.
His move from the ADC to the NDC is expected to influence ongoing discussions within opposition circles as parties begin early preparations for the next election cycle.
Onanuga concluded his remarks by acknowledging Obi’s participation in the upcoming race.

He said, “Welcome, Peter to the 2027 race.”
