EKO HOT BLOG reports that Datti made this known on Monday while formally announcing his defection at the party’s national secretariat, where he addressed party leaders, supporters, and members of the press.
He explained that his decision to join the PRP was driven by both ideological and strategic considerations, stressing that Nigeria is currently facing severe political and economic challenges.
According to him, leadership remains too important to be neglected, adding that the country’s difficulties are largely due to the withdrawal of capable individuals from active politics.
Datti also said opposition parties have been systematically weakened in recent years, noting that only a resilient platform like the PRP can withstand such pressure and provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.
He further stated that the party is positioning itself to win elections at all levels in 2027, urging Nigerians to resist any attempt to undermine electoral integrity.
“I didn’t come here to get a presidential ticket. I came here to fix Nigeria. If supporting someone achieves that, so be it. If contesting achieves that, so be it,” he said.

Earlier, the PRP National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, welcomed him into the party, describing the defection as a major boost to its vision of offering alternative leadership.
