As the Eid-el-Kabir celebration approaches, many Muslim families in Kebbi State are facing difficulties purchasing rams due to a sharp rise in prices across major livestock markets.

The cost of smaller rams now falls between ₦100,000 and ₦200,000, while medium-sized animals are selling for around ₦300,000 to ₦500,000. Larger and healthier breeds are priced as high as ₦600,000 to ₦1 million.
Several residents said the situation is far more challenging than in previous years, noting that the high cost has forced many households to delay their purchases.

A buyer at Ambursa market, Ibrahim Sulaiman, said he hopes prices will reduce closer to the Sallah celebration because many families are struggling financially.
Another resident, Umar Aliero, explained that he had suspended plans to buy a ram for now because of the harsh economic conditions and other financial obligations linked to the festive season.
Livestock merchants blamed the increase on rising transport expenses, the high cost of animal feed, and security challenges affecting supply routes from northern Nigeria and neighboring countries.
According to trader Sale Unabale, the expenses involved in moving and maintaining the animals have increased considerably, making it difficult for sellers to keep prices low.

He further stated that traders have opened temporary selling points in several parts of Birnin Kebbi to attract more customers ahead of the celebration.
Meanwhile, some sellers now move around residential areas with rams, while others display the animals along roadsides, shops, and homes in an attempt to increase sales before Eid-el-Kabir.
