- YouTube To Automatically Detect, Label AI-Generated Videos
- Platform will no longer rely solely on creators for disclosure.
- AI labels will not affect video recommendation algorithms on YouTube
YouTube has announced plans to automatically detect and label AI-generated content on its platform in a move aimed at improving transparency for viewers.
The Google-owned video platform disclosed on Wednesday that it would begin using its own systems to identify videos created with generative artificial intelligence tools and automatically flag them for users.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the new policy marks a shift from YouTube’s earlier approach, which relied mainly on creators to voluntarily disclose whether they used AI in producing their content.
“If a creator doesn’t specify whether or not they used AI, but our systems detect significant photorealistic AI use, we will now automatically apply a label,” YouTube said in a blog post.
The platform had previously introduced measures on generative AI in 2024 by asking creators to disclose AI-generated or altered content.
However, rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technology have since made it easier to produce highly realistic videos, images and audio that are increasingly difficult to distinguish from authentic human-created content.
Some of the latest AI tools capable of generating photorealistic content include Google’s Veo 3.1 and Seedance developed by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
YouTube said creators would still have the opportunity to challenge labels if they believe their videos were incorrectly identified as AI-generated.
The company also clarified that the labels would not affect how videos are recommended to viewers through its algorithm.
Other major platforms have also begun introducing similar measures in response to the growing spread of AI-generated media online. Music streaming platform Spotify is among companies that have recently implemented automatic AI content labelling systems.

The rise of generative AI has sparked global conversations around misinformation, digital manipulation and transparency, especially as AI tools continue to improve in realism and accessibility.
