The abduction occurred nearly two weeks ago after armed attackers invaded three schools in Oriire LGA on May 15, kidnapping several pupils, including young children, alongside members of staff.
The incident also claimed the life of a teacher, Adesiyan Adegboye, during the attack, while another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed while in captivity, triggering public concern and renewed calls for urgent intervention.

In a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday, Makinde said the state government remained mindful of the pain being experienced by affected families during a period usually marked by celebration and family gatherings.
He noted that the administration’s thoughts were with the families awaiting the return of their loved ones, as well as security operatives involved in efforts to restore peace.
The governor further assured residents that his administration was actively working towards the safe return of those abducted in Oriire LGA and expressed hope that the festive season would bring peace across the state.

Reports had earlier indicated that suspected kidnappers established contact with the state government over the weekend, although it remains unclear whether the discussions involved the governor directly or representatives acting on behalf of the administration.
Children’s Day is observed annually in Nigeria on May 27 to celebrate children and advocate for their welfare, education and protection.
This year’s celebration coincided with the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festival, creating a rare overlap between the national event and the Islamic celebration.
