The Lagos State Government has commenced major reforms in the hospitality sector aimed at simplifying licensing procedures, reducing multiple levies and improving investor confidence across the industry.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, disclosed this during the ongoing annual Ministerial Press Briefing marking the seventh year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

According to the commissioner, more than 500 tourism and hospitality establishments have already been enumerated across the state as part of efforts to strengthen regulation and improve sector planning.

She explained that the exercise would enable the ministry to build a comprehensive database for effective monitoring, tourism development and policy implementation.

Benson-Awoyinka stated that the state government was currently working towards harmonising tourism laws, permits and licensing fees to eliminate duplication and reduce unnecessary charges imposed on operators.
She noted that the reforms are expected to improve the ease of doing business within the hospitality industry and attract more local and foreign investment into Lagos.
According to her, the initiative aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision of positioning Lagos as a globally competitive tourism and hospitality destination.
The commissioner assured stakeholders that the state government would continue engaging industry operators to ensure the reforms encourage sustainable growth and create a more business-friendly environment.

She added that the hospitality sector remains critical to Lagos’ economy, especially in areas of employment generation, entertainment, tourism promotion and revenue growth.
