The Imo State Police Command has arrested three students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), over the alleged murder of a 21-year-old undergraduate, Chinedu Christogonus.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Christogonus, a 100-level Cyber Security student, was reportedly beaten to death on Saturday after being accused of stealing N13,500.

The incident, which has sparked outrage within the university community, reportedly involved members of the institution’s Man O’ War organisation. The development triggered unrest on campus, with angry students allegedly vandalising property and setting some buildings ablaze in protest.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly assaulted after being accused of theft.
According to the police, the suspects arrested in connection with the incident are Chukwuemeka Benedict, 21, Kelechi Ikenna, 24, and Obioma Anastasia, 21, all 500-level students of the institution.
“Initial findings indicate that the deceased was allegedly restrained and assaulted, resulting in critical injuries. He was subsequently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel,” Okoye stated.
He disclosed that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Bosso, immediately ordered a swift operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
The police spokesperson added that relevant evidence had been secured, while the remains of the deceased had been deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

To ensure a thorough investigation, the Commissioner of Police directed that the matter be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri.
Okoye said the police have also been instructed to identify and investigate all individuals connected to the incident to ensure that justice is served.
“The Commissioner of Police assures the family of the deceased, the university community and members of the public that the Command remains committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the death. No individual, regardless of status, will be shielded from the law if found culpable,” he added.
The command urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to carry out their duties, assuring that all those found responsible would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
