President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in critical infrastructure, saying road construction remains central to economic growth, job creation and national development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Tinubu made the remarks on Tuesday during the commissioning of the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) in Abuja, stretching from Ring Road I Junction to Ring Road II Junction. He was represented at the event by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The President said the completion of the project reflects the government’s determination to deliver visible benefits to citizens under the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that infrastructure is the backbone of national prosperity.
“What we are doing here today goes far beyond laying asphalt or mixing concrete. We are paving the way for a brighter future,” Tinubu said.
“Infrastructure is the very artery of economic growth. If you want to unlock the potential of a city, create jobs and make life easier for citizens, you build roads.”
He recalled that the first phase of the project, from Villa Roundabout to Ring Road I Junction, was commissioned in June 2024, while a 15-kilometre service carriageway was opened in 2025.
Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects rather than abandoning them.

“We do not start projects to abandon them. The era of uncompleted projects in Nigeria is fading away. We finish what we started,” he said.
He commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his leadership as instrumental to the ongoing transformation of Abuja through infrastructure development.
“The structural transformation we are witnessing in the Federal Capital Territory is a testament to what happens when you have focus, vision and dynamic leadership,” the President added.
Tinubu said the newly commissioned expressway would ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time and fuel consumption, while opening up new residential, commercial and industrial opportunities in the capital city.
He also noted that the project would improve connectivity between the Apo District and the Wasa axis, thereby expanding Abuja’s economic reach and reducing the cost of doing business.
Earlier, Wike said the project was awarded to China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) in late 2025 and completed within eight months, despite initial doubts about its feasibility due to the scope of engineering work involved.
He said he personally monitored the project closely to ensure timely delivery, adding that its completion was proof of what is achievable with commitment and accountability.
Wike also highlighted the administration’s focus on completing inherited projects, noting that a significant portion of completed infrastructure since 2023 originated from previous governments.
Other officials, including the Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, praised the project as a major milestone that would improve mobility, stimulate economic activity and enhance the quality of life in Abuja.
