Sources disclosed that the assailants targeted at least seven houses, including the residence of the deceased student, carting away mobile phones, laptops, cash, gas cylinders and other valuables.
Eyewitnesses said the suspects gained access into some of the buildings by breaking doors and removing roofing sheets before carrying out their operation.
The killing sparked outrage among students of the institution, who staged a protest to demand improved security and accountability from relevant authorities.
The protesters marched to the palace of the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdulrazaq Adenugba, the Ago-Iwoye Police Station and the university campus, displaying placards with inscriptions such as, “Ago-Iwoye is not safe, we need our safety,” “Say no to insecurity,” and “We are here to learn, not to be robbed.”
Reacting to the incident, the university management declared Thursday a lecture-free day to allow students mourn their colleague.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar and Head of Corporate Affairs, Niyi Oduwole, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, directed the suspension of academic activities for the day in honour of the deceased student.
The institution expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured students that it would work closely with security agencies to improve surveillance and strengthen security within the campus and adjoining communities.
Students were also urged to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of escalating tensions, as efforts are underway to prevent a recurrence.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said an investigation had commenced and that security operatives had launched a manhunt for those responsible.
“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the tragic death of an Olabisi Onabanjo University student who was shot by suspected armed robbers in Ago-Iwoye. Police operatives responded promptly and have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators,” he said.
The command commiserated with the family of the deceased, the university management and the student community, praying for the peaceful repose of the victim’s soul.
