A High Court in Kaduna has convicted and sentenced a man, Faruk Suleiman Ololade, for impersonation and attempted online fraud, Eko Hot Blog reports.
According to a statement by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the convict also known as Caesar Smith posed as an Australian citizen on social media in a bid to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

Ololade was prosecuted before Justice Jaafaru Zubairu on a one-count charge of impersonation. He pleaded guilty when the charge was read in court.

Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, Moses Arumemi, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
In his judgment, Justice Zubairu found him guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison, with an option of a ₦300,000 fine.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of his Redmi 15C mobile phone used to carry out the fraudulent act to the Federal Government.
The EFCC revealed that Ololade was arrested based on credible intelligence linking him to internet fraud activities around the Turaki Signboard area of Kaduna.
