According to Wahab, the exercise forms part of the government’s ongoing environmental clean-up campaign aimed at promoting public safety, maintaining environmental sanitation and restoring order in the metropolis.
He explained that the operation specifically targeted street begging, which the state government considers a public nuisance and a contributor to environmental degradation.
“In continuation of the ongoing daily clean-up and enforcement exercise across Lagos State, a total of 226 beggars were apprehended today,” the commissioner said.

Wahab noted that those arrested would undergo proper profiling and documentation before being relocated to their various home states.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to sustaining enforcement activities and sanitation exercises, stressing that the initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure a cleaner, safer and more organised environment for residents and visitors.
