Ikenga said police officers quickly moved to the location where the young mother and her baby were found, ensuring both were safely taken into custody and later reunited with their family for proper care and support.
He explained that preliminary findings indicated the woman had concealed her pregnancy and delivery from her parents before leaving her home in Imo State to stay with a friend in Igbariam.
A concerned citizen’s report was said to have triggered the police intervention, which led to the swift rescue of the mother and child.
Ikenga added that the parents of the woman were contacted immediately and arrived without delay, after which the baby and her mother were handed over to the family.

The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the vigilance of the public and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities within their communities, noting that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
