Akerele said the operation was conducted in line with the Lagos State Government’s directive prohibiting commercial motorcycles from operating on highways and other restricted routes, as provided for in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
According to him, the exercise was aimed at strengthening security, safeguarding lives and property, and curbing criminal activities across the state.
He noted that the enforcement drive aligns with the renewed commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Fatai Tijani, to maintain law and order and enhance public safety.
The Task Force chairman explained that the latest operation followed an earlier crackdown carried out weeks ago, stressing that the agency remains resolute in enforcing traffic, environmental and security regulations.

Areas covered during the operation included Ikorodu, Agric Bus Stop, Festac First Gate, Mazamaza, Iyana School, Iyana-Iba, Idimu Road, Egbeda, Kola Bus Stop, Iyana Ipaja, Ikotun Roundabout, Ajaiye in Ojokoro and Berger Bus Stop.
Akerele disclosed that several commercial motorcycle riders were arrested for operating on prohibited routes. He added that some operators were allegedly caught transporting illicit substances, petroleum products and gas cylinders, while others were conveying school children and toddlers in unsafe conditions along major roads.
He said the operation had helped restore order and improve compliance in the affected locations.
According to him, all impounded motorcycles will undergo due process for forfeiture to the Lagos State Government through the courts, in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
Akerele reaffirmed the agency’s determination to sustain enforcement activities until full compliance is achieved.
“We will not fold our arms and allow individuals with criminal intentions to undermine public safety or continue to operate outside the law,” he said.
